Introduction: Finding the Signal in the Noise

In a world where AI dominates every headline, the real question for businesses isn’t “what can AI do?” but rather, “how do we cut through the noise to deliver outcomes that actually matter?”

Innovation isn’t about trying to do everything at once; it’s about doing the right things well. This was the resounding theme during my conversation with Damon Scarr, General Manager APAC at Sage, carrying the momentum from Sage Future for Partners, Barcelona – a global event series designed to equip the ecosystem with strategy, product roadmaps, and AI-driven innovations.

With AI everywhere, Sage is taking a deliberate approach: embedding intelligence where it counts, empowering partners, and ensuring customers stay future-ready without losing control. The goal? To combine proven reliability with continuous innovation.

Businesses today need more than buzzwords. They need solutions that help them operate faster, smarter, and with confidence. That is exactly what Sage is delivering.

Customer Impact: From Reaction to Anticipation

Finance leaders face a familiar, frustrating challenge: spending too much time looking in the rearview mirror and not enough time anticipating the road ahead.

Barcelona reinforced Sage’s commitment to pairing proven reliability with continuous innovation. The launch of Sage Intacct’s Finance Intelligence Agent showcased how AI can move teams from hindsight to foresight. By surfacing anomalies, trends, and recommended actions in context, controllers, CFOs, and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) leads spend less time hunting for answers and more time shaping outcomes.

Damon Scarr, General Manager APAC at Sage, emphasised the shift this creates for local businesses:

“At Sage APAC, we’re committed to helping finance leaders move from hindsight to foresight. The AI capabilities unveiled in Barcelona mean customers can act on insights in real time, accelerating decisions and driving growth with confidence.”
Damon Scarr, General Manager APAC at Sage

What does this mean in practice? Customers can expect:

  • Tighter month-end cycles
  • Earlier visibility of risks
  • Decision-grade insights embedded directly in daily workflows
  • Support across multiple entities with shared ownership structures

Sage also reinforced its cloud-first evolution with announcements about the next generation of Sage X3, engineered to support Sage Copilot and AI agents. This approach delivers modern capabilities such as automation, embedded AI, and extensibility without compromising the stability customers rely on for compliance and core operations in manufacturing and distribution.

Crucially, there is Trust by Design. Sage introduced its Trust Label, emphasising transparency, governance, and responsible AI – what they call Authentic Intelligence. For customers, this translates to clearer explanations of how AI is used, better auditability, and confidence that innovation won’t come at the expense of control or compliance.

Scarr was clear on this point:

“Responsible AI isn’t optional, it’s essential. Our Trust Label ensures transparency and governance so customers can embrace automation knowing compliance and control remain uncompromised.”

Partner Opportunities: Accelerating Outcomes Across APAC

Technology alone doesn’t deliver outcomes; an empowered ecosystem does. Damon highlighted how Sage is investing heavily to accelerate time-to-value for customers.

The new Sage Partner Portal and Sage AI Developer Programme give partners the resources and tooling to innovate faster. Whether it’s building generative AI capabilities, packaging repeatable solutions, or accessing centralised enablement for sales and marketing, the friction is being removed.

“Our partners are the engine of customer success,” Scarr noted. “With the new Partner Portal and AI Developer Programme, we’re giving them the tools to innovate faster and deliver tailored solutions across the APAC region.”

For APAC specifically, this translates into solutions that reflect real regional requirements. Damon called out practical wins like APAC-ready onboarding, training delivered in local time zones, and momentum on localisation – such as Intacct VAR agreements and local Terms of Use in Southeast Asia. This enables selling and compliance in key markets like Singapore, Malaysia, India, and Hong Kong.

“Localisation isn’t just a checkbox, it’s a growth strategy,” Scarr continued. “By aligning contracts and compliance to regional needs, we’re unlocking new opportunities for partners and customers alike.”

The energy from Barcelona is already translating into action. Regional workstreams are reporting positive feedback, with partners citing the relevance of the event and the clarity of the announcements. Energised partners invest, build, and deliver – and customers ultimately experience that as sharper industry solutions.

"The future of finance is here - Sage is using AI to make finance smarter, moving from simple automation to Sage Copilot and future Agentic AI that proactively manages workflows."
Shelley Iovenitti, Practice Director - Sage & Business Intelligence, FUJIFILM MicroChannel

Iovenitti said, “With a strong focus on transparency and compliance through the AI Trust Label and strategic partnerships, Sage is setting new standards for trust and innovation.”

Future Vision: Innovation with Purpose

What inspires Damon most is the roadmap: a platform that is modern and responsibly AI-enabled. It is a vision that marries the stability mid-market and upper-mid customers require with an AI-forward approach, spearheaded by Sage Copilot, that is trustworthy and explainable.

“Our vision is clear: combine proven reliability with AI-driven intelligence that’s trustworthy and explainable. That’s how we help customers elevate their impact without adding risk,” Scarr explained.

Equally important is the strategy to turn the ecosystem into a true innovation engine. By investing in partner enablement and publishing clear roadmaps, Sage is delivering industry-specific value at scale through packaged solutions and repeatable expertise.

Scarr added that “Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. By investing in partner enablement, we’re creating a multiplier effect to deliver industry-specific value at scale.”

Finally, Damon Scarr emphasised operational readiness for APAC growth: structured onboarding, certification paths, and clear regional price lists. These pragmatic steps ensure innovation lands with the right commercial and delivery foundations.

“Future-ready means region-ready. Our roadmap includes pragmatic steps: price lists, onboarding, certification that ensure innovation lands with the right commercial and delivery foundations.”

Closing Thoughts

Damon Scarr reinforced a simple truth: technology should serve customers, not overwhelm them. Sage’s approach, anchored in trust, guided by transparency, and powered by purposeful AI, offers a blueprint for how businesses can stay modern, scalable, and ahead of the curve without sacrificing clarity or control.

This is an A-to-Z strategy. From AI-driven insights to partner enablement across APAC, Barcelona highlighted how Sage is thinking about the entire journey from platform to ecosystem.

In today’s fast-moving market, solutions that combine proven reliability with continuous innovation are essential. They give customers confidence in stability while unlocking new capabilities through AI.

  • For customers: It means clarity, compliance, and the ability to scale without risk
  • For partners: It means the tools to deliver faster, smarter outcomes.

Success for businesses isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about building trust and delivering results. Personally, I’m excited by this honest direction, – a laser focus on ensuring businesses truly benefit from AI, rather than just getting a shiny new toy.
