FAQ's When Selecting Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software

Whether you are considering a full Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation for the first time or evaluating alternatives to your existing platform, there are certain questions you will always want to consider.

What follows are the Frequently Asked Questions we have been hearing since 1995 relative to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) along with how we typically answer the questions. You will note that more often than not, our "answer" is a set of our questions.  

  1. "What SETS YOUR COMPANY APART from Other ERP Solutions Providers?" - We like to hear that type of question because it means you as the prospective client sincerely want to understand what is different about each provider. Most business owners and executives have learned to ask straight forward questions like this to get at the real information they desire. At MicroChannel Services we answer this with a variety of questions of our own. Why are you considering a switch from your current environment? What do you like most about and the least about your current provider? Most prospective clients are straight forward about why they are looking and what is missing in their current system.  Next, we gather as much information as we can about the company and in particular their information system and reporting needs. We try to gather as much of this information in advance as we can and will use initial conversations to confirm what we have learned - industry, company size (employees, revenue, growth, etc.), management structure, number of users, etc. We have learned that the more questions we ask, the better the final result!
  2. "How will you MANAGE the INSTALLATION?" - As the prospective client, you are looking for assurances that the provider has hands on experience in software installations and this is an opportunity for a provider to set themselves apart from others. Most people who have been around for awhile have lived through at least one bad implementation and they don't want to experience another!  
Again, we have learned from experience that the more questions we ask and the more details we can uncover about a prospective client and their objectives, the easier it is to deliver a successful project. Once we have the details, we then create a project plan that allows us to manage all those details.  

We regularly communicate with all stake holders being sure that everyone understands exactly what is expected at a very detailed level.  In this manner, we avoid surprises and we deliver projects on time and at the expected price. 

  1. "What kind of TRAINING Do You Provide?" - Most providers understand that with well trained users, the odds of a successful relationship improve dramatically.  Training sessions are also a great time to strengthen relationships with users and find out what is really happening! In the end, everyone involved wants a successful project. Well trained and satisfied users are one of those details we focus on at MicroChannel Services.
  2. "What is the TOTAL COST of the Project" - Business owners do not like surprises and especially so when it comes to dollars!  Unfortunately there are many ERP Solutions Providers who charge more than is reasonable for maintenance, licensing, upgrades, etc. We are careful to explain all fees up front so there are no surprises.
  3. HOW LONG have you been in business? - MicroChannel Services has been in business since 1995.
  4. Can I create CUSTOMISED REPORTS?  How FLEXIBLE is the System? - Yes.  All of our implementations include report writing capability. Prospective clients want to know they can get the information they need and have the solution they are purchasing has built in options and flexibility.
